Sphynx cats are known for being hairless, their lack of fur has given some people the idea of tattooing their cats’ skin. Sphynx cat tattoo has been going on for several years now, however, one case incredibly became viral in Russia two years ago.
This has raised the debate about whether cat parents should tattoo their Sphynx cats or not! Having a tattoo artist injecting ink through your skin with a needle for hours is mainly your own choice. You are totally free if you wish to have permanent artwork on your body but what about your animal? Do they really want that? In fact, it is painful for most of the people so what would your poor animal feel about it, have you imagined!
Tattoos for Cats: The Hairless Sphynx
Due to the fact that Sphynx cats are hairless, some people came with the idea of how cool their Sphynx cats will look wearing tattoos all over their bodies, crazy is not? In fact, Aleksandar Purtov, a tattoo artist, living and working in Russia decided to make his Sphynx cat look more like a gangster member. He dosed his cat, whose name is Demon, with pain killers to make sure he would stand still until his owner finishes his artwork!
He made four tattoos on his poor cat’s skin and all of those tattoos represent criminals in Russia. In fact, the tattoos feature a prison tower and a man with a cigarette! When the photos of the Sphynx cat tattoos went viral, Purtov was accused of cruelty and in response to this outrage he said:
“Of course I feel pity for doing it to him. It’s not like he wanted to do it himself. He has different skin, so tattoos are applied differently,” he also added, “I hope it is not too bad for him, it is not his first tattoo. Usually, he feels fine and recovers from the anesthesia pretty fast.”
Unfortunately, the Trend Continues, the latest case of Sphynx cat tattoo was recorded by a Ukrainian bodybuilder named Elena Ivanickaya. Ms. Ivanickaya has decided to have an image of winged Egyptian style design on her Sphynx cat’s chest.
After the photos appeared online, the followers furiously accused the woman of cruelty and torturing her poor cat.
Ms. Ivanickaya replied back saying that her cat, who has its own page on Instagram, is living a life better than those who are complaining. In addition, she defended saying “He has not been castrated, and he never will be, this would be real cruelty. I checked with the vet before getting him a tattoo, and they were fine with it and a vet was present while they were doing the tattoo, so everything was under control” She added: The cat is treated with love and care.
Is Tattooing a Painful Experience for a Cat?
There is enough suffering in the world without adding some extra useless pain just for the sake of looking cool! Even with anesthetic, no one should let their pet undergo such painful experience.
Multiple complaints have been raised by animal rights groups about the spreading trend of tattooing Sphynx cats, and the biggest argument against it is the very motive itself: selfish reason.
People who want tattoos can feel free and enjoy their choice, however, they have no right in giving a tattoo to a poor pet who does not have the ability to defend themselves or saying no! In fact, they might be nothing legally against tattooing your pet, however, there is no justification for doing so! If you want to have a closer bond with your Sphynx cat, you may consider getting matching outfits not matching tattoos!
